Naomi Campbell Puts Blood Diamonds in The Limelight Again
Well the celebrity chat rooms and blogs are abuzz with Naomi
Campbell testifying at the The Hague in the Netherlands. Besides showcasing Ms Campbell as a total naive this has lead to the issue of blood diamonds and the harm it does to the nations where they are mined, to be in the news and in front of an audience who may not have known what they were and the destruction they wreak.
Dictators like Charles Taylor have used these diamonds to decimate their countries not only economically but also socially. They have been able to do this because the authorities who control the diamond trade have been unable or unwilling to be very strict with companies who trade in blood diamonds. Sure there is the Kimberly process which is an international agreement to check the proliferation of these but these have been not very effective.
But the main reason these war merchants have been able to deal and prosper in the trade of blood diamonds is because we the consumers don’t really care where the diamonds that we buy come from (the majority anyways). I know this sounds like a rant but believe me if one took the time to research the conditions in these war torn African countries they would feel as strongly about it as I do.

Always buy diamonds from a respectful company and one that gives back to the commuity. I bought a loose diamond at Diamonds International.
