The history of the Chopard jewelry brand did not begin with jewelry. In 1860 in Switzerland, Louis-Ulysse Chopard opens a small watchmaker’s workshop. The master is distinguished by his diligence and persistence and produces high-precision movements. These are the qualities that allow him to win the popularity of the European people.
Already in the 90s he receives official recognition of his talent – he receives an order from the Swiss railroads. By the beginning of the century, all of its employees are trumped by accurate and modern watches. But it is the lack of refined design of his creations that prevents Chopar from reaching the international level. The watches are reliable, accurate, but monotonous and even boring.
With the fall in demand for wristwatches in the middle of the 20th century the demand for the brand’s products is decreasing. In search of an alternative market niche, the brand Chopard begins to produce watches with precious stones, gold and platinum. The idea was not new, however, the company had an undeniable trump card: watches by Chopard were both exquisitely beautiful and reliable. In 1976 the brand released a collection with a twist: diamonds and sapphires were sliding freely under the glass inside the dial.
Launch of jewelry production
From the beginning of the 20th century, the company’s management decided to expand the range of products and launched perfume lines for women and men and jewelry. The first Chopard jewelry piece was a clown pendant with a large sapphire inlay and small loose diamonds floating inside the piece. This is followed by the first Happy Diamonds collection. The collection is still in production today and is a collection of slightly humorous articles such as gold elephants and teddy bears with the signature accent: loose stones inside.
Today the company has already entered the international level, there are jewelry boutiques in many countries, every year over 15 thousand jewelry pieces are produced. The company management does not stand still, new techniques of metal and stone processing are introduced, but the famous “floating stones” technology is nevertheless present in each collection.
