Swarovski
History of the brand
Swarovski AG is an Austrian company, which was founded in 1895 by Daniel Swarovski. The main activity is the production of crystal and crystal products, as well as the cutting of natural and synthetic stones.
The history of the company began with Daniel’s invention in 1892, a revolutionary at that time machine for automatic cutting, which allowed to increase considerably the quantity and quality of processed stones.
Three years later he opened his first factory for manufacturing and cutting stones with optical characteristics similar to diamonds. Daniel Swarovski was personally involved in the development and production of his products at every stage, from design to processing. He is the inventor of the Swarovski signature crystal formula.
At present the Swarovski Group consists of companies manufacturing crystal and bijouterie, synthetic stones, tools and materials for processing, and reflective traffic elements. Undoubtedly, the most famous and popular products of the company are, of course, Swarovski crystals and jewelry made of them. However, Swarovski crystals, which in Russia are called crystals, are in fact crystal, as in terms of molecular structure they do not have a crystal lattice.
Secrets of Swarovski
The unique properties of crystals are due to the use of a material with a high content of lead oxide, up to 34%, whereas in the usual crystal its mass fraction does not exceed 24%. This raw material the company produces itself since 1911. To give the components different colors and additional lighting effects, the manufacturer uses coatings that can create a bright metallic and iridescent glitter. Thanks to the materials and technology used, Swarovski stones have high purity, no clouding, even color and solid plating.
Another specialty of Swarovski’s gemstones is the company’s technique of precision cut to within one micron.
In 2004, the company patented a new type of cut, XILION. Aside from the fact that the number of lateral facets grew to 14, the facets are now of different sizes. Compared with stones that had an “equal-sided” cut, the alternation of narrow and wide facets increased reflectivity by 23%. Each facet is meticulously sanded and polished. On the base-side of each gem is aluminum sprayed, which enhances the effect of diamond shine.
The unique technology and materials used make Swarivski AG one of the first in the market. The company spares no expense to improve them, carefully keeping the secrets of production. The product range is constantly expanding, following the needs of the consumer. Today under this brand there are produced phone covers, jewelry, chandeliers, office supplies and many other products made of glass, crystal, precious and artificial stones.
